Pirts is a traditional Latvian sauna practice shaped by generations of folk knowledge and a deep relationship with plants, song, and the four elements that give birth to ‘gars’ (meaning both steam and spirit or inner being). Pirts was always a place for washing and gathering, as well as accompanying people through life’s great transitions.

This session brings together essential elements of the tradition to experience communally, including herbal brews, gentle temperatures, intentional engagement with the steam and native plants, salt scrub, temperature contrast and rest. Leafy branches, gathered into traditional whisks and used in rhythmic movements, are central to this practice. Their rich textures, scents, and gentle touch offer a profound way to connect with the body, soften and surrender to what needs to be let go of.

In the warmth of the sauna and the presence of plants and each other, each is held, soothed and nurtured. We make room for pausing from the pace of everyday life and for what is ready to soften, settle or renew.

If you have any allergies or sensitivities, please contact the bathhouse in advance.
